WORKSHOP #1: Dance: The First of August

The First of August is an elegant solo step dance known to have been taught in the Hebrides, and can be traced back to one particular dance teacher, Ewan MacLaughlin (1799-1879). Sabra learned this version from the renowned dance historian Mats Melin while studying at the University of Limerick. This workshop will appeal to step dancers of any style looking to broaden and deepen their repertoire.
WORKSHOP #2: Dance: Cape Breton Step

Step into the rich dance history of Cape Breton with Sabra, who'll introduce you to the fundamentals of this unique step style through the strathspey, reel and jig rhythms. This workshop is open to all, whether you're new to Cape Breton step or looking to refresh and build your knowledge of the style.
Sabra MacGillivray is one of Atlantic Canada’s leading ambassadors of Highland Dancing and Cape Breton Scottish step dancing. Sabra is an award-winning dancer, performer, choreographer, teacher a trained pilates instructor and registered massage therapist. Sabra has performed and taught all over the world including Canada, United States, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, and Australia. Sabra has been a registered massage therapist since graduating from ICT Northumberland College in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2000 and is a member of the Massage Therapists’ Association of Nova Scotia. Sabra has been practicing Pilates for over 15 years. She completed her certification training in 2017 to become a certified Stott Pilates instructor.
