TERRI’S PRESENTATION:
Have you always wanted to learn more about Gaelic language and culture? Can you spare a few minutes to try? Join author & educator Terri M. Roberts for a modern retelling of the classic tale of Gaelic hero Fionn MacCool and his most famous boyhood adventure. This “new trad” version of a very old story contains 9 Gaelic words, accompanied by gestures, so you can learn the language in a way that really sticks. Join us during the lunch hour for a free reading with Terri and some hands-on activities, and see for yourself just how quickly you can pick up some new-to-you Gaelic words while enjoying Gaelic storytelling.

BARRY'S PRESENTATION:
Throughout most of the 19th century and into the early 20th, bagpipe music was interwoven with fiddle music, Gaelic singing, and traditional and emerging dance traditions in the Gaelic communities of Nova Scotia. Author Barry W. Shears, author of the new Nova Scotia bagpipe collection Play It Like You Sing It, will informally present a selection of traditional dance tunes from the collection and talk about regional variation in a time when players learned by ear, and the connections between Gaelic language, song, dance, music, and culture.
