Jim Keenan is a native of County Armagh, Ireland and now lives in suburban Washington DC. An accomplished Irish Ceili and Country Set (sets quadrille) dancer and teacher, Jim began dancing as a youth in Ireland where he was expert in the local Armagh dances. He has participated in the revival of the Irish sets and couples dances, and contributed to the growth of Irish Ceili dancing through research, dancing, and teaching.
Jim has danced and taught Irish Ceili and Set dancing in the Washington area since 1982. He has also performed aand conducted classes, summer schools, workshops, and lectures throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, including the Wolf Trap Center for The Performing Arts, Washington’s Kennedy Center, Washington Irish Festival, Philadelphia Heritage International Dance Festival, Oatlands Celtic Festival, and Washington International Folk Festival. Jim has also choreographed Irish Set dances, which have been published and performed worldwide, and has a comprehensive repertoire of traditional and contemporary Set and Ceili dances
