The First of August
The First of August
Dance: The First of August w/ Sabra MacGillivray
Level: Intermediate
Sat. October 24 | 11 AM - 12:30 PM | The Sanctuary Arts Centre
The First of August is a lively and rhythmic solo Hebridean step dance from the islands of Scotland! Sabra learned this dance from renowned Scottish traditional dancer Mats Melin while studying at the University of Limerick.
In this fun, upbeat workshop, we’ll explore the distinctive rhythms, footwork, and playful low kicks that give Hebridean dancing its unique character. The dance can be performed in either soft or hard shoes, making it a wonderful opportunity to explore a different style of percussive dance while having a great time.
No special dance background is required! Whether you’re a seasoned step dancer, a Highland or traditional dancer, a tap dancer, or simply someone who loves rhythm and wants to try something new, you’re invited to join in. Come ready to move, make some music with your feet, and enjoy the infectious rhythms of the Hebrides!
